OK, some night the family will get mac & cheese & I'll make this for me.Jennifer (ponderosa)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17712875613623664156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31542820.post-39535734938718319732011-08-23T07:08:40.263-04:002011-08-23T07:08:40.263-04:00: ) Will you still stalk Nigel with me if I tell y...: ) Will you still stalk Nigel with me if I tell you I'm awfully fond of Mr. Hopkinson?

I particularly like his desserts, his custards and creme caramels and chocolates (though I make them rarely now that I've lost my taste for sweets)-- and while I think I get what you mean by his prose, it doesn't bother me like Steingarten's does.

His supercilousness-- oy. I find him amusing the first two chapters and then I just feel like shouting "shut up!" at the book. So I set it aside.

But Nigel. Yes, Nigel.

I keep looking at the glossy new Elizabeth David at work and telling myself I don't need it because I have all the books, including BOTH versions of Mediterranean Food. Maybe it's in the earlier one? (I don't know the years off the top of my head but it went through several revisions, methinks... maybe that's where it comes from?)She Curmudgeonhttp://www.shecurmudgeon.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31542820.post-76528416217432653682011-08-22T18:25:10.785-04:002011-08-22T18:25:10.785-04:00Sigh.
