Eight

Eight years ago, she was a helpless newborn, full of unrealized potential. Today, she's a third grader, full of vim and vinegar, piss and vigor.

Eight years ago, she was 22". Now she's 53", and has grown two and a half inches since last year.

Eight years ago, I didn't know that she would make me a better person, bit by bit, every single day.

Happy birthday, girlie. You'll always be my favorite baby.

  9. My daughter got a card for her eighth birthday that I loved. I goes like this:

    "Extra-cool
    Invincible
    Girl-powerful
    Hip 'n stylin'
    Totally wow

    Eight - it's an attitude."

I think that fits Mir, too.

Your text resonated with me because just last night as Fiona stepped out of the shower, I wrapped the blanket around her and hugged her. She complained, "I can't hug you back," and I said, "You couldn't hug me when you were a tiny baby, either, but I hugged you all the time." Then I remarked that she was 21 1/2 " long at birth, which is almost two feet, so how come she's only grown three feet (and some inches) in the last nine years??

Yes, my children have made a world of difference in me.

Happy Birthday to your beautiful daughter and congratulations, Mom.
