More Stuff From My Mother's House

Here are just some of the oddments we found while cleaning out the fabric cabinets:

Sweatshirt sleeves
- no longer attached to the sweatshirts

Wallpaper leftover from the third floor bathroom of the previous house
- which was sold in 1972

The back pocket from a pair of jeans
- still attached to a square of the ass

I see these saving tendencies in myself. A disembodied sleeve could be used as protection for a fragile slender object. Two could be repurposed into storm cuffs for a coat without them. Wallpaper can be used in a decoupage project, or as wrapping paper. The pocket? The pocket is where my imagination fails. I've turned the calf section of a jeans leg into a handbag, but I can't think what to do with a pocket still attached to just a square of denim.

You could sew a change holder. But I don't want to be accused of enabling anyone's hoarding tendencies so toss that sucker out :)

Change purse was my first thought too!

Sew it to a throw for use by the TV or your reading chair. Great place for reading glasses, remote, chapstick etc.

Easy peasey. Tack it to a cork board and put pens in it. Or paperclips. Or one of those huge, flat combs from the 1970s. :-)

Repurposed sweatshirt sleeves make excellent leg warmers.

I had the same corkboard idea! But you know what you could really do with it? Throw It Out!!

It wouldn't last an hour in my house :)

I love the comments^

Among the unexpected items we found while going through our parents house: the receipt for my brother's first bicycle (my brother was 45 when we found the receipt) and the handwritten bill from the doctor who delivered one of my siblings!

I would have a hard time throwing it (the pocket) out too. But you should throw it out! and how MANY sweatshirt sleeves are we talking?

It's killing me, this denim with pocket thingie! Flitting through my memory, somwhere--a chimera--is a vision I can't get my memory around, and it involves a craft project with denim with the pocket on.

Until I can dredge it up, just use the thing as a hot pad. Make bread already.

You could use the pocket to store other, very small items, like buttons and gumdrops, that you'll come across the next time you decide to clean out cabinets.

I can see keeping the pocket because pockets rip off and need replacing. Keeping it still attached to the square of ass is baffling me, though. I don't get it! But I kind of love it.

It's like a treasure hunt, isn't it? Some of what you find so obvious, some of it a total mystery. Bon courage --
