Ice

It's a snow day. No, it's an ice day. It's below freezing, and it's raining, so the trees are slowly becoming encased in a deadly glittery sheath. We have never before had so many icicles on the house, and they are growing as you watch. (And yes, the Christmas lights are still hung outside - there's been too much snow to get them down safely, and besides, they look pretty.) The driveway is thickly coated with ice; we sent the girl up it this morning - hey, she's the one that wanted to go to work with me - but she got about a third of the way up and slid back down on her back (and then cried because we laughed at her). So we're trapped in the house until we can fabricate some crampons, or the temperature rises, whichever comes first.

On the agenda? Baking bread, as much work as I can manage by email and/or phone, and an indoor winter Wii Olympics later this afternoon. Ski jumping, here I come!

Our weather has moved to phase 2. We are now covering our deadly ice sheath with a deceptive layer of fluffy snow. Mother Nature's booby trap ;)

You need a little emergency kit with yaktrax and rock salt in it.

;-)

Baking bread is waay better than going to work, though.

We've almost finished eating the second of two loaves I made yesterday. Here we got enough snow that we can crunch through for some traction, but it's still raining steadily and getting icier by the minute.

I love the cozy glimpse inside through the icicles.

(the kids have been lobbying me for Wiinter Olympics. Now that the thing is in our house, it's as slippery a slope as your driveway, and accompanied by many tears, too.)

Isn't it the worst when your kids catch you laughing at them?

It's best it's not snowing here--I cannot ski jump to save my life. Table Tilt is my game!

Stay warm and enjoy the bread.

Love the photo! Almost business as usual here. A two-hour delay this morning was perfect, since I stayed up very late finishing some work.

i'm jealous of everyone's snow day. couldn't convince my boss to late me take in support of the rest of the country....

(OK, does "everyone's" need an apostrophe or not?)

I am one yeast packet short of a loaf.

Snow day here -- no ice though, just fluffy snow that is heavy to shovel but, according to my kids, hopeless for forming snowballs.

I hope you enjoyed your snow day!

Oh, Magpie! I feel your pain. I blogged about ice as well. I baked bread too! We're practically twins!

We had a blizzard day on Wednesday. Lots of snow, plus the added bonus of blowing and drifting. Spent the day reading and playing board games. Oh, and blueberry pancakes for lunch... mmmmmm.

Hope you've thawed out a little. Watch out for those icicles - ice dams can form. Speaking from experience...blech.
