Torso

I love Freecycle. You list stuff, people come and take it away. I've gotten rid of all sorts of weird things that way - like the chain link dog run that came with our house which some kind people are now using for greyhound rescue. And sometimes I actually get stuff - just recently I got a perfectly lovely vintage Mirro cookie press. I totally don't need it, but I love having it and one day we'll squeeze out some little poodle-shaped cookies.

But maybe the best part of Freecyle (or Freeshare, same concept, different people) is just reading the email digests with the OFFER and WANTED posts. Like this one:

I mean, what's Betty going to do with it? My sister - yes, we forward these back and forth - said "She's trying to cheat in the car pool lane."

What do you think Betty's going to do with the torso?

My piano teacher used to wear a man's fedora when driving alone at night (back in the 70's when it was more likely that anyone would be wearing a hat than now). It made her feel less vulnerable to someone who might prey on a single female. Perhaps the torso could peer out the car window as a security item?

We've heard of it being done around here in the HOV lane. Of course, there was also an occurrence of the cops doing the same thing w/a parked patrol car :D

I knew we were kindred spirits.

I don't think it's for the carpool lane because she wouldn't specifically need a male for that.

Freecycle IS awesome. I recently got rid of five empty spice jars in a matter of 2 hours there.

I needed one once - I had to set up a display of chainsaw safety equipment. Head was a real necessity. ;-D

We used to have a dress-maker's mannequin named Lucy, with a styrofoam head that came out of a dumpster. We still have a nicely framed b/w picture of her in a cut-down cornfield around someplace.

i tend to think she's a props mistress, but you never know.

we had this statue at NU in the lobby of the theatre that was a headless torso, and you would tell your scene partner "I'll meet you at three by the torso" to get together to rehearse. After we graduated I made my best friend a book where torso went on an adventure to find us (and torso found us... in NYC!)

ok. random memory. ;)

I have an idea but I don't think your blog is rated for that. ;-)
